3D Printer Safety

Learn to safely use the laser cutter just in time for holiday projects! You will get some hands-on time with the the laser cutter controls and learn what materials can be cut. After the completion of the class, you will be certified to use the laser cutter at the Powell Makerspace.

Introduction to Wood Turning

Turn your own bowl or handle for a knife, screwdriver, or other project on the Powell Makerspace’s Wood Lathe!  Come in for an orientation on the machine and learn how to operate it safely.  Then, decide on a project and when to come in to work with our instructor one-on-one for your first major lathe project.  Buy the wood yourself, or get it through us, and our instructor will prepare your blank for you to get started!

Intro to Arduino

Learn to build custom electronics projects with an Arduino.  Arduinos are low cost and easy to use microcontrollers.  With an Arduino, you can build interactive objects that can sense and control things.  Some sample projects include an automatic plant waterer, interactive light displays, and DIY weather stations.  This class will cover what an Arduino is, how to use it with different sensor and outputs, and where to find great resources online for more in-depth projects in the future.

Laser Cut Valentine’s Day Card

Come to Powell Makerspace to create intricate laser cut cards to make your Valentine’s Day a particularly special one this year.  After you have learned the basics of how to find or create appropriate designs, you get to cut two cards each.  Once you have take the class, you will have all of the skills to make more as a Makerspace Member or Library Pass Holder.

Website Workshop

After our website design course last fall, we got feedback letting us know that people would appreciate a more hands-on course where they can get help and advice about their specific website.  Ao, we decided to take your suggestion and are offering workshops this spring where people work with their websites and get suggestions and help from the Powell Makerspace instructor and other students.  General topics will include getting a site set up for the first time, organization of a site, use of pictures, and more depending upon what people are most interested in working on.  Join us for whichever Saturday afternoon you have free in February.

CNC Router 101

Have you ever needed a custom sign made?  Wanted to prototype a part more quickly than a 3D printer? Create a 3D topographical map of Wyoming?  If so, you will definitely want to register for one of these one-on-one introductory courses that will teach you the essentials of how to use the Powell Makerspace’s CNC Router.  Pre-registration is required for this class.
